(From the City of Joplin)
The City will host an open house public meeting from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday March 21, at the Byers Avenue United Methodist Church, located at 1730 Byers, to review plans for a neighborhood recovery project in an area just west of Main Street and north of 20th Street.
Surface Project 4005 includes the replacement of damaged sidewalks, curb & gutters, storm water inlets & pipes, ADA ramps at corners, and street pavement. The work will be completed from Jackson Avenue to Main Street and from 15th to 19th Street.
Citizens are encouraged to stop by any time during these hours and view the plans of the upcoming project. City engineers and representatives of Sprouls Construction Inc., the project contractor, will be available during the meeting to share details and answer questions from those attending.
In July, 2015 the Joplin City Council approved the Capital Plan for the expenditure of Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds focusing on the rebuilding and recovery work following the May 2011 tornado. This is the first of six similar projects in the recovery area that focuses on repairing damaged public infrastructure in residential areas.
The construction contract was awarded earlier this month to Sproul’s Construction Inc. with work scheduled to begin this summer. More information about this project, as well as all of the recovery projects, can be found atwww.joplincdbgdrpublic.com
