Joplin, MO – The Student Activities Office at Missouri Southern has announced winners of the second annual Registered Student Organization Awards.
Best Student Organization Led Philanthropy Winner: Sociology Club Members volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House on Christmas Eve and rang bells for the Salvation Army during the holidays.
Best Student Led Program Winner: Kinesiology Club The club works to give kinesiology majors opportunities to network with professionals, socialize outside of the classroom and serve the community.
Emerging Organization of the Year Winner: Sociology Club Sociology Club members participated in World AIDS Day, volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, helped with concessions at basketball games and attended a sociology conference in Milwaukee.
Emerging Leader of the Year Winner: Jada James James serves as co-president of the Southern Black Student Union. She does a great job making sure the organization runs smoothly.
Leader of the Year Winner: Garrett Pekarek Pekarek is the president of the Sociology Club. He was instrumental in reorganizing the Sociology Club and worked closely with the faculty advisor to bring the club out of dormancy.
Advisor of the Year Winner: Dr. Conrad Gubera, professor of sociology Dr. Gubera worked with Sociology Club members to reinvigorate the organization.
Organization of the Year Winner: Kinesiology Club The Kinesiology Club had an exciting year, taking first place in the Homecoming float and flag competition, while their king and queen candidates made the homecoming court. Eight members attended the Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance Convention, where two members received accolades. Earlier this year, they helped host an archery tournament which drew 2,000 attendees and raised $3,000 for the club.
