Changes in Joplin Police Department hiring procedures, pay explained

Joplin Police Department Lateral Hiring-New Procedures and Pay

We are excited to announce that we have changed the hiring requirements for lateral and POST Certified hires. 

We will NO LONGER require applicants to take the written or physical agility test if they meet either of the following requirements:

-the applicant has worked in law enforcement as a POST Certified Police Officer in the last calendar year or is currently a POST Certified Police Officer for another agency
-OR-
-the applicant has graduated from a police academy in the last calendar year and is now Missouri POST Certified



Applicants that meet at least one of those requirements will need to complete the standard employment application and complete the background packet for the background investigation to begin.

Applicants who successfully complete the hiring process that have previous, full-time sworn law enforcement experience, will be hired in at a rate higher than the entry level range for Police Officer II. Starting pay for lateral transfers will range from $16.95 an hour to $17.99 an hour based on years of experience, with credit given for up to 4 years of experience.
