Joplin residents arrested after shot fired at SWAT team, meth, weapons confiscated, children removed from home

(From the Joplin Police Department)

This morning, September 26, 2018 at about 5:44 a.m, the Joplin Police Department SWAT Team arrived at 622 ½ North Byers for a Search Warrant. The Ozarks Drug Enforcement Team had obtained a search warrant on the residence and the Joplin Police Department SWAT Team responded to secure the residence and its occupants for ODET.

When the Joplin Police Department SWAT Team arrived, they approached the door and began to make entry.

A suspect inside the residence fired a shot in their direction. The shot exited the wall, past the SWAT Team and struck a tree in the front yard. That suspect was arrested without incident and no injuries occurred. Joplin Police Detectives then investigated the assault on officers. Detectives worked alongside members of ODET for the investigation into the narcotics and firearms at the residence.

Christopher Vaughn, 44, Joplin, was arrested for First Degree Assault on Law Enforcement, Armed Criminal Action, Delivery of a Controlled Substance and child endangerment.

Samantha McCrary, 24, was also arrested from the residence for child endangerment and 5 active JPD Warrants. Two young juveniles were taken into state’s protective custody from the residence as well. Meth and firearms were recovered from the residence.

The investigation is ongoing, and charges will be submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. Both Vaughn and McCrary are being held at the Joplin City Jail.

  1. No one saw this coming(sarcasm). This is the same Christopher Vaughn and the "phantom knife" stabbing in June of 2007. He should hire Fleischaker again to find another loophole. Hope the judge assigned to this case does his job or next time a cop or innocent person is killed. A next time is the fault of the judge and the system.
