Jasper County Sheriff: Adults try to lure children at rural Joplin home into car, same car may have been at local day care

(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

On 9/26/2018, shortly after noon, a vehicle occupied by possibly three individuals entered a mobile home park east of Joplin and approached the front yard of a residence where two small children were playing.

The vehicle stopped in front of the home while an adult who was at the residence momentarily went into the house. When the adult at the residence went back outside and noticed the car parked in front of the residence with the rear driver side door open and an occupant calling for the children; one walking toward the car.

The adult confronted the occupants of the vehicle. The driver drove away and was not located by law enforcement dispatched to the scene.

The vehicle is described as a dark grey in color, four door compact sedan, possibly a Dodge Neon or similar make and model.

The car had a rear spoiler on the trunk lid and a missing driver side rear hubcap or small “donut” spare tire. Video surveillance footage of the suspect vehicle was captured at the mobile home park.

During investigation into this incident a vehicle matching this description was seen on 09-26-18 and today, 09-27-18, at a daycare facility east of Joplin in the early morning hours during child drop off time.

The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and female passenger wearing hats and sunglasses. Any information regarding this vehicle or the occupants can be directed to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Detective Michael Hollier at 417-358-8177 ext. 1260.
