KGCS students recognized by Missouri Broadcasters Education Association

Students from KGCS-TV at Missouri Southern State University have been recognized for their work in the annual competition held by the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association (MBEA).

The awards competition featured 192 entries from colleges and universities across Missouri, and were presented to 13 different schools. Judging was done by broadcast professionals.

The following awards were announced for KGCS students:

Honorable Mention – Video/Documentary Film Category

Ashlea Zumwalt - “Teen Hop Documentary”

Honorable Mention – Video/Feature News Story

Carola Stahl - “MSSU Lion Co-op Food Pantry”








Second Place – Special Programs and Podcasts

Abby West, Maddy West, Lauren Brown, Alyssa Brown, Dinah West, Ma’Kese Wesley - “Southern Nights Episode 7 - March 2019”

Third Place – Special Programs and Podcasts

Alyssa Brown, Lauren Brown - “Newsmakers Cardinal Caravan 2019”

“We’re proud to see that our student production work is receiving recognition among their peers in broadcast programs around the state,” said Judy Stiles, KGCS general manager.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21. It is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Suddenlink Communications. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
