Springfield bomb squad called as stolen car with explosive device inside found in Joplin

On 4-27-20 at approximately 1:02 p.m., Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were called to 422 E. Fountain Rd in Joplin in reference to a suspicious vehicle.

Upon arrival, deputies located a white Ford Explorer with no license plates parked in the roadway. 

Deputies then discovered the vehicle was stolen from Wichita Kansas. 










As deputies were searching the vehicle, a homemade explosive device was located inside the vehicle. The area was secured and the bomb squad from Springfield Fire Department was contacted to come make the device safe. 

The device was removed from the vehicle and taken to a safe location nearby and detonated safely. 

The investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests as of now from this incident.
