Webb City High School senior accepted to U. S. Naval, Air Force academies

(From the Webb City R-7 School District)

Webb City High School is proud to announce that senior Wyatt Hodson has been appointed to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and also the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Wyatt is the son of Matthew and Rebecca Hodson.

The application process for the Military Academies began during the junior year when Wyatt attended the Summer Seminar at the Air Force Academy. From that experience, he was sure he wanted to begin the application process.

To apply, Wyatt wrote dozens of short answer responses and essays, received recommendation letters from a variety of teachers and coaches, and performed well on many challenging physical exams. Missouri 7th District Congressman Billy Long selected Wyatt for appointment for both academies. He has chosen to become a cadet at the US Air Force Academy and will be recognized at a ceremony in June.

At Webb City High School, Wyatt has been an impressive athlete and a scholar. He is an Honor Diploma student, taking and excelling in rigorous classes and earning AP Scholar recognition. He has been a leader on the baseball field, serving as captain this year and playing with the championship team his junior year.

In the past four years, he has played on the high school, summer, and fall club teams. Last year, he was selected to attend Missouri Boys State. Currently, he is vice president of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and president of National Honor Society. He was part of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce’s Tomorrow’s Leaders Today. He participates in community service in our school’s PALS, Hi-Step, and Link Crew programs as well as basketball and baseball camps.
