Conversation with noted author among events next week at Missouri Southern

Author Yoko Ogawa will lead a discussion in conjunction with Missouri Southern State University’s Japan Semester at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28 in Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium.

Ogawa is the best-selling author of more than 50 works of fiction and nonfiction and has won every major Japanese literary award. Her work often addresses themes of memory, loss, confined spaces, and women's roles.






 

Other events planned for next week include Mass Band Day at Saturday’s football game, the next selection in the Japanese Film Festival, MOSO Madness and women’s soccer.

Tuesday, Oct. 26


“Shall We Dance”: 7 p.m., Bookhouse Cinema. A middle-aged workaholic's dull life takes a funny turn when he signs up for a ballroom dance class – just to meet the sexy dance teacher. But when he finally muscles up the nerve for lessons, he winds up with a different instructor and her colorfully eccentric class of beginners. Directed by Masayuki SuĂ´.

MOSO Madness: 6 p.m., Leggett and Platt Athletic Center. Missouri Southern basketball fans can get a sneak peak at the 2021-22 men's and women's basketball teams as well as pick up season tickets.

Thursday, Oct. 28

A Conversation with Yoko Ogawa: 7 p.m., Cornell Auditorium in Plaster Hall. Yoko Ogawa, the author of the Japan Semester Book Club selection “The Memory Police” will lead a discussion.

Saturday, Oct. 30

Football vs. Missouri Western: 2 p.m., Fred Hughes Stadium

Mass Band Day: Hundreds of area high school students perform with the MSSU band in a halftime performance during the football game.

Sunday, Oct. 31

Women’s Soccer vs. Northwest Missouri: 2 p.m., Hal Boden Soccer Field
