“The Crowder Sentry has earned the ‘Best Overall’ award seven times since 2008 against rival St. Louis Community College, which has an enrollment almost three times that of Crowder,” said Latonia Bailey, Neosho, faculty adviser of the publication.

“The students have worked hard to provide relevant, timely content on platforms going beyond the newsprint product,” Bailey said, noting the students also produce multimedia and daily posts on social media channels for www.CrowderSentry.com.

The Crowder Sentry publications and productions offer hands-on application of communication principles and will continue to do so as a new program emerges in the department.

Starting in fall 2022, Crowder will offer a certificate in Digital Media Marketing for students interested in social media, content creation, and search engine optimization. Crowder also offers both a certificate and associate degree in Photography.

The course in which students produce the Sentry, DIGM 102 Content Creation, is a 3-credit-hour class offered in the fall that teaches the basics of creating content for media, including social media and long-form blog posts, photography, video and podcasts.

Crowder will offer other communication-related courses this fall: Intro. to Public Relations and Digital Marketing, Intro. to Graphics Software, and Intro. to Human Communication. Classes begin Aug. 22. For more information, contact the program coordinator/instructor: LatoniaBailey@Crowder.edu.
