Webb City JROTC Rifle Team earns national championship

(From Webb City Schools)

The Webb City JROTC Rifle Team is the new U. S. Army Rifle National Champion after winning the competition at Camp Perry in Ohio.

This competition was actually a regional championship and the Army Service Championship at the same time. There are concurrent competitions taking place in Alabama and Utah for those regions of the US.

So for the Regional Championship, a team consisting of Preston Burton, Johnathon Tatum, Yaisa Walker, Gabe Elder, and Aleena Arias took first place.

Four of those cadets made it into the Individual finals (Head to Head shootout between top 8 individual shooters).

Webb City had 4 of the top 8 shooters in our 25 state region. When the finals were over, Webb City shooters placed:

1st - Preston Burton
2nd - Johnathon Tatum
4th - Yaisa Walker
6th - Gabe Elder

As I mentioned earlier, once all three regionals were complete, this same Webb City JROTC Rifle Team earned a 1st Place finish in the US Army JROTC Rifle National Service Championship!

Also, we actually qualified two of our rifle teams for the first time this year to compete in the top 50 Army JROTC teams in the nation. Our 2nd team consisting of Katelyn Miller, Samuel Fisher, Avery Pennock, Blake Wininger, and David Alm earned a 19th place finish amongst all Army JROTC rifle teams.

For the first time, our Webb City team that got 1st Place in the Army has earned the right to compete in the JROTC Inter-Service National Championship where the top 7 Army teams will compete head to head against the top 7 teams from the Marine, Navy, and Air Force JROTC. This competition will take place 23-25 March.
