City of Joplin encouraging residents to take survey on internet use

As part of its Smarter Joplin Roadmap initiative, the City and our partners are working to learn more about our community’s technology usage and needs. 

To start this effort, we are conducting an Internet Gap Study within our city. The study will provide vital information to help determine the level of connectivity that exists throughout Joplin.

Joplin man arrested for burglary of Bungalow Day Spa

On July 26th, 2021 officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to the Bungalow Day Spa at 2928 S. Main Street for a report of a burglary. 

Officers found a window had been broken to the business and found blood in several areas of the business. 

During their investigation, officers obtained video surveillance of the suspect, who was described as a shirtless, white male with distinct tattoos. 








Officers were able to positively identify the suspect as Jeremy Blevins, age 31 of Joplin. Blevins was previously contacted earlier in the evening a short distance away from the burglary scene and attempted to report he had been stabbed. 

As the investigation continued, the same business was found to have been burglarized on July 18th the same window being broken by the same method. Blevins was also positively identified in the surveillance video images as the suspect in that Burglary as well. 

Blevins was treated for his injuries and later arrested and transported to the Joplin City Jail. 

Charges are being sought against Blevins for 2 counts of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and Filing a False Police Report.

Seneca woman killed, second woman flown to KU Medical Center following crash on 43

A Seneca woman was killed and two other people injured in a two-vehicle collision 4:40 p.m. Monday on MO 43 at Route BB, four miles north of Seneca.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Stephine A. Langland, 35, Seneca, pulled into the path of a 2021 Kenworth utility truck driven by Jason E. Bonnow, 39, Wentworth.









A passenger in the Langland vehicle, Crystal N. Ward, 32, Seneca, was pronounced dead at 11:31 p.m. by Dr. Sweaney at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Langland was airlifted to KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas, with serious injuries. A second passenger, a 14-year-old girl, was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West. 

Lamar woman injured in car-cow collision

A Lamar woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident 2 a.m. today on BB Highway, four miles west of Greenfield.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by Quintin D. Farrier, 23, Lamar, struck a cow in the roadway.

A passenger, Taylor B. Farrier, 33, Lamar, was treated for minor injuries at Cox Barton County Hospital, Lamar.
 

Oklahoma man drowns in Elk River

A Commerce, Oklahoma man drowned 5 p.m. Monday in Elk River, three miles north of Noel.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Joel F. Pascual, 27, was wading in the river, ventured into deeper water, was unable to get back and drowned.

McDonald County Assistant Coroner Jonathan Fletcher pronounced him dead at the scene at 6:30 p.m.

The drowning was the 14th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
