Barton County Sheriff's Report

On 1-28-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen Air Conditioner from 603 Church. Deputies responded to the address and was able to find the unit at a neighbor's home. The unit was able to be recovered and a report was taken for stealing. The investigation in ongoing.

On 1-26-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home in Lamar. The execution of the warrant was to try and locate items recently stolen from past burglaries in the county. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office arrived at the home around 4pm. Items believed to have been recently stolen were found at the home. The Sheriff’s Office was able to contact several victims and have them identify property found at the residence. One subject was arrested for receiving stolen property, and stealing on 1-27-2015. Terry G. Harless, age 45, of Lamar was arrested in Joplin and transported back to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office. A warrant was served to Harless on 28th with a bond amount of 7500 dollars cash or surety.

On 1-26-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was called to 26 Northeast 1st Road in reference to a burglary and stolen vehicle. The reporting party advised that when they arrived at the residence the garage door was open and vehicle was missing. The investigation continues.

On 1-26-2015 a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle at the intersection of Northeast 90th road and Northeast 90th lane. During the traffic stop the driver was identified and found to have a suspended drivers license. A search of the vehicle also found an illegal substance and drug paraphernalia. The subject was issued summons for the offenses.

On 1-25-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a trash dumping case on Southwest 150th lane approximately three miles south of 126 highway. The reporting party advised that he had found where someone had dumped several bags of trash on his property. The investigation is ongoing in this case.

On 1-25-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a property damage case outside of Golden City. The victim in the case reported that he had two tires punctured on his vehicle. The incident took place at 752 southeast 118th lane. The investigation is ongoing.

On 01-20-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a burglary report of a trailer house located at 543 NW 130th Lane. A air conditioner was stolen from the residence. The investigation continues.

On 1-21-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary at 32 Southeast 95th road. The reporting party advised that items was stolen from the home as well as a log splitter. The investigation is ongoing into the theft.

On 01-20-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint that a home had been broken into and items stolen. The incident occurred at 877 NE 30th road. The reporting party stated that medications and jewelry was stolen from residence. The investigation continues in this case.

On 01-20-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint of a Semi truck that was driving in a careless manner west of Golden City. The reporting party advised that the semi almost struck his vehicle. The caller passed the semi and contacted Law enforcement. A deputy from the Sheriff’s Office was able to get the semi stopped west of I-49 on 126 highway. Statements was obtained from both parties involved and a report will be sent to the prosecutor for consideration of filing criminal charges.

On 01-20-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a trespass and theft case on Northwest 90th road approximately 4 1/2 miles west of I-49. A chain securing a locked gate had been cut open. Items was believed to have been stolen from the property. It appeared as when the suspects left the property items stolen from the property fell from a moving vehicle and was laying in a ditch away from the property. The investigation is ongoing in the theft case.

On 01-18-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a burglary at a residence where a trailer and a generator was stolen from a residence on Southeast 10th road outside of Lamar. The investigation continues in the case.

On 1-18-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of phone harassment. A caller called the victim in this case and made some threatening and disturbing statements. The investigation is being investigated and once completed reports will be sent to the prosecutor for formal filing of charges.

On 01-18-2015 The Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a Harassment and Violation of a court ordered Exparte order. The victim in the case alleged she had received several phone calls and messages via the internet. The case was investigated and the respondent in the case was interviewed. The investigative reports will be sent to the prosecutor for filing of criminal charges.

On 01-18-2015 the Barton County Sheriff Office took a Burglary report in the area of 301 southeast 10th road. It was reported that Misc tools had been stolen from the property. The investigation continues.

On 01-14-2015 around 4am the Barton County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office about a vehicle pursuit which had began in there jurisdiction and the vehicle was traveling northbound on 160 highway at a high rate of speed from Golden City. The pursuit ended about two miles north of 160 highway on F highway where one subject was taken into custody. The stolen truck was towed back to the Sheriff’s Office where the owner came and picked it up that morning. The suspect was transported back to Lawrence County to face criminal charges in that jurisdiction.

On 01-13-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary in the S.W. part of Barton County close to Jasper. The victim in the case had left the home and went to work that morning. The victim returned home to find a door had been forced open. Numerous items was stolen from the home. The investigation is ongoing.

On 01-12-2015 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office took a complaint of identity theft. The complaining party advised that someone had opened a pay-pal account with her name and address. A short time later the reporting party advised that it was also found that a Verizon phone account had been opened. The investigation continues on this incident.
