The Joplin Fire Department responded at 6:24 on Thursday, 12 February, to a report of a structure fire at 1826 S Byers, Joplin. Arriving on scene at 6:31 AM crews found a vacant one story wood frame residential structure with fire and smoke coming from a window. Crews quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the room of origin, declaring it under control at 6:38 AM. Crews remained on scene until 7:37 AM.
The structure suffered smoke damage throughout. Ownership information was not available at the time of this report.
Five Fire units and 18 firefighters responded to the scene, as well as JPD and METS. No one was injured on the scene.
At this time the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Fire Marshall.
