(From City of Joplin)
An historical celebration will be held on February 19, 2015 at the Gryphon Building to commemorate the 100 Year Anniversary of one of Joplin’s finest buildings. One hundred years ago on February 19, 1915 over 5,000 local citizens attended the grand opening ceremony of the Interstate Grocery Store warehouse. The $225,000, multi-story commercial building was proudly on display for the local community to enjoy just as it is today.
This beautifully restored structure remains a model for historic preservation. The commemorative event will begin at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 19 at the Gryphon, 1027 Main Street. Brad Belk, Executive Director of the Joplin Museum Complex and Allen Shirley, Board Member of the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will make brief statements.
The public as well as the media are welcome and encouraged to attend as well as tour the building. Please join us in recognizing the rich history of this building, repurposed as a vibrant and thriving commercial center.
For further information, please contact Brad Belk at 417-623-1180.
