MUNICIPAL JUDGE
DEFINITION
DEFINITION
The purpose of this position is to handle all ordinance violations in the municipal court.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Reports to the City Manager. Exercises supervision over Municipal Court Clerks and City Attorney.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Conducts court proceedings.
- Is always on call to sign warrants and papers.
- Follows procedures as required by city, state, and federal laws and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the City Manager, City Charter, or other regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- The principles and practices of municipal law.
- Laws, ordinances, and statutes under which municipal government operates.
- Community programs as applied to municipal government.
- Current developments, literature, and sources of information in municipal law.
Ability to:
- Select, supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
- Identify and respond to community issues, concerns, and needs.
- Properly interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, and policies.
- Enter data or information into a terminal, PC, or other keyboard device.
- Work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
- Research, analyze, and evaluate laws, statutes, and regulations.
- Prepare clear and concise administrative reports.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Make public presentations.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, co-workers, subordinates, and members of the public.
- Demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and innovation in interacting with co-workers, and the public to resolve issues.
- Express ideas clearly and effectively.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES
Juris Doctor required. Four to six years of experience required. Must have a license to practice law and should be a member of the Missouri Association of Associate and Municipal Judges.

Environmental Conditions
Office/field environment; may be exposed to physical violence.
Physical Conditions
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing, and walking for prolonged periods of time.

Computer, calculator, copier, printer, police radio, and phone.
Miscellaneous Requirements
- May be required to work more than 40 hrs/ week.
- Subject to emergency call-in.
- Must successfully complete pre-employment substance abuse testing.
- Must successfully complete per-employment background investigation.
- Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.
- Must be flexible in scheduling/conducting necessary court dates (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday) as needed or required by state oversight.
