Michelle Wood has joined the staff of the Office of Development at Missouri Southern State University as Director of Leadership Annual Giving.
The position supports the university by actively engaging friends and alumni, and soliciting annual support for departments and scholarships at MSSU.
Wood graduated from Missouri Southern with a bachelor’s of science in education in 1992. Following 10 years as an elementary school teacher in Lamar, Mo., she became executive director of Barceda Families, a non-profit child abuse prevention, intervention and treatment organization covering nine counties in Missouri.
Among her achievements in the role were developing a five-year strategic plan for the organization, securing $1.7 million in grants and implementing a fundraising campaign throughout the counties served.
After seven years in the non-profit world, she was hired as the director of talent acquisition for Leggett & Platt Inc. Wood and her team of recruiters worked to recruit, evaluate, interview and hire high-caliber talent for key positions throughout the company.
“I’m thrilled to return to my alma mater in this capacity,” said Wood. “Missouri Southern’s growth in the last few years has been tremendous, and working to engage donors and tell the university’s story is critical to supporting and enhancing the work that has been done and what is to come.”
“We’re excited to bring someone with Michelle’s professionalism to our team,” said Kevin Greim, Associate Vice President for Development. “We know that as an alumnus of MSSU, she will play an important role in making a deeper connection with existing donors and new connections with other friends of the university.”
