East Newton School Board approves four-day school week for 2017-2018

As part of the continued efforts in keeping the patrons informed, the East Newton R-VI Schools administration will provide monthly information concerning Board meetings.

A recap of the January, 2017 regular meetings is as follows:

Patriot Pride recipients were Brett Hall and Jackson Tire.

Public Comments: None

The Board approved the Consent Agenda, including the previous month Board minutes and monthly bills, substitute teacher list, and distribution of 2016D Policies.

Program evaluations for the month of January included Food Service, Guidance, and Special Education.

Under reports a financial report was given for the month of December and enrollment numbers were presented. Total enrollment on the last day of October (K-12) was 1,321 students. Attendance overall for September was 93.8%.

Under Old Business, the board approved a 4 day school week for 2017-2018 school year. The Board then conducted the second reading of MSBA policies 2016C.

In respect to New Business, the Board approved the lease financing on a project that will place solar panels on certain buildings in the district to cut electrical expenses. Finally the Board approved the lawn mowing services agreement in the original bid.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for February 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Office. Prior to that meeting at 5:15 PM will be the Calendar Hearing for 2017-2018.
