Joplin firefighters rescue dog from blaze at 227 N. Cox

The Joplin Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 227 N Cox, on Tuesday, 18 April, at 3:59 AM. 

The first crew arrived at 4:03 AM. On arrival fire personnel found a fully involved fire in the carport area with a propane bottle venting and on fire, with the fire burning into the house itself along the carport wall. 

 Crews extinguished the fire and remained on scene until 6:03 AM.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighting crews. The lone occupant had escaped the house by the time units arrived. Firefighters rescued a dog from within the house. The house is owned by Robert Riggs.

The Fire Department responded with five apparatus and 14 personnel and was assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.

The fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal.
