Riverton couple arrested on burglary, meth charges

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating a burglary, after a resident discovered numerous items, including firearms and electronics, had been stolen from his rural Baxter Springs home on April 10th.

On Thursday afternoon, the investigation led detectives to execute a search warrant at a Riverton apartment, where they recovered some of the stolen property and also discovered suspected methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were 28 year-old Donald Wyatt and Stacey Carey, 31.

Both suspects remain in the Cherokee County Jail, where Wyatt is being held on allegations of Residential Burglary, Felony Theft, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Wyatt’s bond is currently set at $22,000.

Carey is being held in lieu of $15,000 bond on allegations of Residential Burglary and Felony Theft.

“While this investigation remains ongoing, it’s great any time we are able to return stolen property to the rightful owners and hold the suspected thieves accountable,” stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.

“I also always like to encourage residents to grab your phone and take pictures of the serial numbers on your firearms, electronics, mowers, ATV’s or any other property. Doing so aids law enforcement significantly in our ability to locate and recover those items, should they one day be stolen,” concluded Sheriff Groves.
