Neosho man killed in two-vehicle crash on I-49

A Neosho man was killed in a two-vehicle crash 10:50 a.m. today on southbound I-49, north of Highway V, five miles west of Diamond.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Ford F-150 driven by Skyler B. Ernest, 27, Neosho, traveled off the left side of the roadway, crossed the median and struck a 2001 Freightliner driven by Kevin M. Coffman, 53, Kansas City, causing both vehicles to travel off the right side of the roadway.

Ernest was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:01 a.m. by Newton County Coroner Brian Artherton.

Coffman was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the 30th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
