On Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 13th opportunity in 7 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Residents can bring pills for disposal to Apple Market in Columbus, Marvin’s IGA in Baxter Springs or the Galena City Hall. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
“The Drug Take Back Events have proven to be successful in Cherokee County and across the country, with over 7.1 million pounds of drugs collected nationwide and thousands of pounds collected locally, since the program started,” according to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves.
“I’m proud of the overwhelming support and participation from residents here in Cherokee County because those are all drugs that won’t fall into the hands of an addict, an innocent child or be flushed into our waterways,” added Sheriff Groves.
