(From the Joplin Police Department)

Officer of the Month
July 2018
Officer Jason Sandbothe

During the month of July 2018, Officer Sandbothe was extremely proactive in his policing efforts, which included arresting 12 separate people on felony charges. Below are a few examples of those felony arrests:

On July 15, 2018 Officer Sandbothe observed a vehicle with license plates that did not match to the vehicle they were displayed on.

By the time he caught up to the vehicle, the driver had parked behind a residence and was walking up to the back door. The driver, told Officer Sandbothe he had been at this residence all night. The homeowner later advised the driver had not been at the residence.

During the contact, the driver attempted to discard a pill bottle and a glass pipe underneath his vehicle. Inside the pill bottle were 18 Alprazolam pills and a baggie of Methamphetamine. Inside the vehicle Officer Sandbothe also found Marijuana and more paraphernalia. The driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance, Driving While Revoked and he also had 4 felony warrants from Cherokee County, KS for Probation Violation and Possession of Methamphetamine.

On July 21, 2018 Officer Sandbothe conducted a pedestrian check at 7th and Jackson with a male and female. The female, was later found to be lying about her identity because she believed she had an active warrant. When Officer Sandbothe obtained her actual identity, she did not have a warrant but was arrested for Obstruction. After her arrest, Officer Sandbothe located drug paraphernalia on her person and she continued to show signs of nervousness. During a search at the jail a baggie of Methamphetamine was found. The female was charged with Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Use of Drug Paraphernalia.

On July 23, 2018 Officer Sandbothe observed a vehicle pull into Casey’s General Store at 7th and Schifferdecker with a passenger believed to have had active felony and misdemeanor warrants for his arrest. During the contact with the vehicle, the passenger assaulted Officer Sandbothe and fled on foot. Officers tracked the suspect and he was eventually apprehended by K9 Pax. During the apprehension, the suspect was actively assaulting K9 Pax. During a search of the suspect vehicle, a handgun was found under the seat where the passenger had been sitting.

The suspect was arrested on his active warrants, Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Assault on a Law Enforcement Animal, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Resisting Arrest. A female in the car, was arrested for Hindering Prosecution for providing false information to officers on scene and for Possession of a Controlled Substance for drugs found on her person.

These are just a few examples of Officer Sandbothe’s proactive policing efforts he puts forth daily. Officer Sandbothe is always seeking out the criminal element during his patrol duties and consistently produces high quality felony arrests.
Officer Sandbothe you are an asset to the agency, community, and fellow officers. Thank you for your service.
