Public meeting scheduled over proposed expansion to Sunshine Lamp Historic District

(From the City of Joplin)

The Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Joplin will host a public meeting about the proposed expansion to the Sunshine Lamp Historic District. The meeting will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 1 at the Missouri Southern State University (MSSU) Downtown Campus building at 300 Main Street in the former public library building.

The anticipated expansion will include properties on the east and west sides of the 800 and 900 blocks of South Main. The purpose of the meeting is to determine area support for the proposal, and to provide information related to property ownership within this district.

Various stations focusing on the possible expansions will be set up in the meeting area for viewing. Historic Preservation Commissioners and Downtown Joplin Alliance members will be available during this open house format to talk with citizens and answer questions.

The public is invited and may come and go as needed during the meeting times. Refreshments will be provided by MSSU.
