The Lamar Police Department has introduced their new badges, providing a new symbol for the department. The department began wearing the new badges last week and provide a more modern look to the uniform while trying to capture a deep since of heritage and community values.
The basic shape went from the classic shield and eagles to the oval for a more modern look of the profession.
They took the classic, bold wording and made it simple to read and recognize.
An American Flag banner was added to symbolize the heritage and the contributions of many Lamar residence to our community and country.
Chief Rives wanted the badges to stand out and be a sense of pride for the officers. The patrol officers’ badge is silver with gold panels. As officers progress in rank to Sergeant, the badge becomes gold with the panels changing to silver, reversing the basic contrast. Command staff badges are gold with gold panels. The difference although probably insignificant to most symbolizes a rite of passage and growth.
Chief Rives stated “creating a professional image is important to us. It not only reflects on the police department and the confidence we hope the community has with the department, but also the image we are able to help create for the city as a whole.”
The badges replace the traditional badge that have been worn for many years. Chief Rives commented the department had three different styles of badges being used before the replacements. The need for uniformity is vital in setting the department image. Identifying the need and planning for the change had been outlined nearly a year ago.
