Guns found on Carthage High School campus were thrown out of vehicle by suspect

The investigation regarding the two guns located on the Carthage High School property has led to the discovery that the guns had been thrown out of a vehicle several days ago by a suspect.

Video confirmed that the suspect threw the guns from his vehicle and left school property. 

This incident is completely unrelated to the Carthage High School or any student. 

At this time we believe the firearms found are stolen from other jurisdictions and we are continuing the investigation.

Earlier news release

The Carthage Police Department is investigating two weapons located outside at the Carthage High School Monday evening.

It is unknown how long the weapons have been there and the investigation is ongoing. Carthage Police is working diligently with Carthage R-9 staff at all of the schools. 

At this time we do not feel there is a concern for safety and will update you if circumstances change.
