Carthage baby killed, 5-year-old seriously injured after UTV collides with tree

A one-year-old Carthage girl was killed and two other children injured in a one-vehicle accident 5:10 p.m. Saturday on private property on County Lane 121, two miles northeast of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Polaris Ranger driven by an eight-year-old girl struck a tree and overturned, ejecting her and two passengers.

The one-year-old was pronounced dead by Dr. Morris Glover at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, at 6:02 p.m.







The eight-year-old and a five-year-old girl were treated for minor and serious injuries, respectively, at Mercy McCune-Brooks.

The fatality was the 15th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
