Cherokee County Sheriff begins seat belt enforcement campaign

(From the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office)

Starting next week, the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office will join other law enforcement agencies in Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma with increased traffic enforcement near schools to raise awareness of roadway safety. The enforcement campaign will run from February 24 thru March 6.

"With motor vehicle crashes being the leading cause of death for teens between the ages of 15-18, it's important we focus on encouraging safe practices such as buckling up and leaving the phone alone while driving," stated Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves in announcing the Sheriffs' Office participation.

During the enforcement campaign, law enforcement from all three states will be issuing citations to any individual who chooses to disobey traffic laws, whether it is for speeding, texting or failing to buckle up.
