Joplin Fire Department releases 2020 statistics

2020 year end statistical data for the Joplin Fire Department is as follows:

- The Joplin Fire Department responded to 8413 requests for assistance averaging 23 responses a day.

- District #1 (Downtown District) was our busiest district with 2595 responses or 31% of the call volume.

- EMS responses accounted for 65% of our call volume.

- The Joplin Fire Department responded to 71 "working" structure fires in the city limits of Joplin and an additional 26 "working" structure fires in our neighboring mutual/auto aid districts.








- Average response time to structure fires for the first arriving apparatus was 4 minutes and 49 seconds.

- Average response time for the full first alarm compliment of apparatus at a structure fire (2 Engines, 1 Ladder, 1 Rescue, and 1 Chief Officer) was 7 minutes and 53 seconds. 

- Property value for all structure fires in the city limits of Joplin was $28.7 million dollars. $3.9 million of that value was damaged or destroyed for an 87% save rate. 

- 37% of all structure fires were in vacant structures.

- The Joplin Fire Department responded to 15 technical rescues in 2020, a majority of which were swiftwater rescues.

- Thursday was the busiest day of the week and the hours of noon to 5pm were our busiest time of day.
