(From the Joplin Fire Department)On Saturday, 23 January 2021, at 6:32 AM, the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 409 E 8th Street.
The first crew arrived at 6:35 AM to find a single-story automotive repair facility, fully involved. Crews attacked the fire, extinguished it, and then checked for any fire extension.
Public works was called to partially demolish the building and thus aid in the search for hot spots. Crews remained on scene until 9:46 AM.
The Joplin Fire Department responded with 5 units and 15 personnel. The Fire Department was assisted by Joplin PW. METS Ambulance Service and the Joplin Police Department. There were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.
The cause of the fire was ruled accidental in nature.
As crews were leaving the scene, they noticed smoke coming from a storage shed that was connected to the building. They stayed on scene and extinguished that fire as well, remaining on scene until 10: 05 AM.
