Joplin man killed, Joplin, Seneca residents suffer serious injuries in head-on crash on 43


A Joplin man was killed and two people injured in a two-vehicle collision 7:30 p.m. Tuesday on MO 43, four miles north of Seneca.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Jessica M. Oliver, 29, Seneca, crossed the center line and struck a 2017 Lincoln MKX driven by Ilyas J. Qawishabazz, 55, Joplin, head on.







Qawishabazz was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:39 p.m. by Newton County Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems.

Oliver and a passenger in her vehicle, Matthew R. Beamer, 39, Joplin, were treated for serious injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

The fatality was the 83rd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
