Crowder College receives $4.4 million grant to continue Upward Bound program

(From Crowder College)

The Crowder College Upward Bound Program has been approved for three grants totaling over $4.4 million through August 2027. The institution has hosted the program funded through the U.S. Department of Education for over 20 years.

The program serves 150 area high school students from 37 high schools in 10 counties of southwest Missouri. Upward Bound works with high school students in order to prepare for post-secondary education by providing year-round academic support as well as an intensive 6-week residential summer program where they live on the Neosho campus and participate in a variety of research projects.

“We are excited to know the Upward Bound grant programs are being renewed for another five years,” state Shannon Hatfield, UB Interim/Talent Search Director. “The opportunity to continue offering these programs to students in our service region is key to building success in high school students and preparing them for college.”

The College Prep Academy has 275 students on campus through the Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science programs.

Crowder College has 13 Trio grant programs. The UBMS grant is also currently up for renewal with notification expected in late August. It is similar to the UB grant, but the students either have an interest in areas of math and science or score high in those academic areas. This is an additional $4.4M grant.
