Joplin High School student recognized by National Speech and Debate Association

(From Joplin Schools)

Joplin High School Speech & Debate student Jeana Compton has reached Premier Distinction - the highest degree of recognition bestowed by the National Speech & Debate Association

This places Jeana in the top 3% of National Forensic League competitors nationwide, which is an outstanding achievement!

"Jeana is a great student and debater," said JHS Speech & Debate coach and teacher, Misti Mead. "She continues to impress me with her dedication to Speech and Debate and is continually wanting to grow and improve."

Meanwhile, Jeana said Speech and Debate has been the most positive influence in her high school career.

"Through participating in this team, I have learned great skills from my coaches, teammates, and competitors. I would encourage students to join speech and debate because it teaches you to rationalize your thoughts, present your ideas, and express yourself in ways you can't do in any other sport. It also builds your confidence and makes you much more comfortable talking to and presenting in front of others. Speech and Debate is one of the few academic clubs that we have, and this type of club allows us to learn skills to help us both in the real world and in our other classes."
