Redings Mills firemen answer multiple calls Friday

(From the Redings Mill Fire Protection District)

What a welcomed sight the current rainfall we are receiving is. We usually avoid posting any details regarding our emergency responses. However, Friday was an exceptional string of events for our district, and I would like to share our story.

2:48 PM, we received a Fire Alarm for an address in the 9000 block of Highway NN. Prior to arrival at that incident units were called to Highland Lane just off Gum Road at 2:54PM for a reported grass fire.

Then at 2:58PM we were called to Drake Drive and Gum Road for a brush fire. Newton County Central Dispatch advised that the fire alarm was a false alarm. Our responding units then split into two groups for both brush fire calls and began calling for mutual aid assistance for both fires.

At 3:08PM another brush fire call came in near Foliage Road and Highway 43. Mutual aid units from Joplin Fire Department and Seneca Fire Protection District were diverted to handle that incident.

After control of the three incidents started to take shape a traffic accident was dispatched to us at 5:03PM. Call in crews were able to mitigate this accident that ended up being non injury. Then at 5:16PM another traffic accident came in at Highway 86 and Gum Road. Apparatus from the Drake Drive event were able to respond to this incident that had four patients with minor injuries.

Finally, at 5:17PM a dispatch for a structure fire on Eloise Lane was received. Units arrived on scene to find this to be a small brush fire and the home had been extinguished by the occupant.

The Highland Lane fire ended up consuming 87 acres of pasture and timber. It also destroyed one outbuilding. Both the Drake Drive and the Foliage Road fires ended up consuming 15 acres of pasture and timber each with no structures damaged.

First and foremost, thank you for the hard work of our Redings Mill Firefighters during these events. Secondly, I cannot say enough about how thankful we are for having great mutual aid partners. They assisted in making a bad situation better and it is much appreciated.
