24-year-old Joplin pedestrian struck, killed on North Main

On October 22, 2022, at approximately 2:48 AM the Joplin Police Department Emergency Communications Center received information of an injury crash in the area of 1500 North Main Street involving a pedestrian.

Officers from the Joplin Police Department, along with fire and EMS personnel, responded to the scene and located a male subject that had been struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Main Street near the campus of Ozark Christian College.








The pedestrian is identified as 24-year-old Andrew P. Dodson of rural Joplin. Dodson was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with the investigation and was present on the scene when officers arrived.

The Joplin Police Department crash team responded to the scene to begin a fatality crash investigation. During the investigation a motorcycle was found in the area of Zora St. and Main St. 

The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle ran off the road near the exit ramp and crashed in the ravine. The motorcycle appears to belong to Dodson.

The investigation in ongoing. Further information will be released as it becomes available.
