(From KGCS)

Bandanas have been part fashion, part protective face covering. But, a lime green version is now a symbol of support showing that the carrier or wearer is willing to listen to someone’s mental health concerns.

This week on Newsmakers, student leaders share details of The Bandana Project which is working to grow a network of people with knowledge of campus and community resources during October which is Suicide and Mental Health Awareness Month.

Heather Bullock, lead counselor at Missouri Southern State University, shares fact about the prevalence of anxiety and other mental health concerns among college students. Maya Greenquist, The Bandana Project President and the group’s adviser Cori Reid, explain the history of the group and what it entails.

Several members of the organization share their own personal experiences with mental health stressors. Debbie Fort explains another student led effort called Real About Wellbeing (RAW), a club designed to give students a safe space to talk.
