Around 300 regional high-school students will gather for the 17th annual Southern Media Showcase Day on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Missouri Southern State University. The program will begin at 9:15 a.m. in Corley Auditorium.
Students will be recognized for their work in a number of categories in video and print competition. Categories include writing, photography and design in print, as well as music videos, news and sports in video. There will also be a special presentation of the Passion for Video award.
The program will include presentations by media professionals and recognition for outstanding work in print and video projects by high-school students. Guest presentations will include a session by Eric Crosswhite, local morning news anchor for KSN-TV in Joplin, and Amanda Ashley, web content manager for KNWA and FOX24 in Northwest Arkansas. Both are Missouri Southern graduates.
Schools planning to attend include Glendale, Central and Parkview from Springfield, East Newton, Southeast (Kansas), Lamar, McAuley, Joplin, Carl Junction and Webb City.
Southern Media Showcase Day is made possible by financial supporters including the Ruth I. Kolpin Foundation, the Missouri Broadcasters Association, the Missouri Press Association, the Society of Professional Journalists and Missouri Southern Admissions. Other support comes from KOAM-TV, the Joplin Globe, University Relations and Marketing, and on-campus media outlets.
