On Friday May 15th, 2015 the Joplin Police Department along with members of the
Southwest Missouri DWI Taskforce and the support of MADD hosted a DWI checkpoint at
34th and Hearnes.
The goals of the checkpoint were to:
1. Detect and apprehend impaired drivers
2. Raise Awareness to the dangers of Driving while intoxicated or impaired.
3. Encourage people to plan events and alternate transportation accordingly.
The check point was in service from 9:30 pm to 00:30 am Saturday morning. Seven hundred sixty-five drivers were contacted. Eight field sobriety tests were conducted on subjects

3-total tickets
9-warnings
3-total arrests
This checkpoint was funded through a grant provided by the Missouri Department of
Transportation Highway Safety Division.
That sounds like a lot of law abiding citizens hassled
