JPD arrests man on forgery charge

During an investigation of fraudulent checks cashed at Joplin businesses, detectives with the Joplin Police Department obtained a search warrant for 323 West 15th Street, Apartment #2.

Detectives had gathered information that fraudulent checks were being created and printed at the address and dispersed around the community.

On Friday May 8th at approximately 11 p.m., officers and detectives with the Joplin Police Department served the search warrant at the address.

A computer, scanner, printer, evidence of stolen identities and other items used in the creation and printing of fraudulent checks were seized at the residence.

Joseph Ehlers, 32, was arrested for forgery and the charge will be forwarded to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation is on-going and the discovery of additional victims is anticipated.
