Missouri Historic Preservation Council to meet in Joplin next week

The City of Joplin is celebrating May as National Preservation Month. In recognition of this month, the Joplin’s Historic Preservation Commission is proud to be hosting the quarterly meeting of the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15. The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday in the Council Chambers of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main.

During their meeting in Joplin, the group will take a bus tour of historical places in Joplin. Planned by the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the tour begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. Joplin Museum Director Brad Belk will serve as the moderator on the bus.

Later that day, at 7 p.m. a dessert reception will be held at the home of Bob and Nancy Morton, 112 South Sergeant Avenue. Invitees include the Missouri Advisory Council; the Historic Preservation Commission and City staff; Historic Murphysburg Preservation, Inc. Board and members: City Leaders; Leslie and Dale Simpson, and Brad and Belinda Belk.

At the beginning of their meeting on Friday, May 15, at 9 a.m. the Missouri Advisory Council Meeting will hear Nomination for Historic Register requests. The meeting will take place in City Council Chambers at City Hall. They will discuss ten nominations for National Register requests.
The Missouri Advisory Council also met in Joplin in 2009.
