Joplin Police offer tips to fight theft of Christmas packages

(From the Joplin Police Department)

It is the holiday season and usually we see an increase in the theft of packages delivered to homes.

Usually the packages are stolen from porches after being delivered. There is some evidence perpetrators follow the trucks when they enter a neighborhood and then steal the packages once delivered. There are several things you can do that will prevent these thefts:

-If you see a person(s) following delivery trucks when they enter a neighborhood. Please call the Joplin Police Department immediately. (417-623-3131)  If possible, consider having packages, especially those of considerable value, delivered to an alternate location such as your work location.

-Consider requiring that packages, especially those of considerable value, be signed for by someone at your home. This may prevent them from being left on your porch and stolen.

If a package delivered to you is stolen, please call 417-623- 3131 and report its theft to the Joplin Police Department along with the company or agency that performed the delivery and the company from which you bought the product.
