(From the Joplin Public Library)
Looking for more games and activities for your kids to play? Check out a Launchpad tablet from the Joplin Public Library!
Each Launchpad comes pre-loaded with fun learning apps for children as young as three years old and each unit focuses on a specific theme—with dinosaurs, bugs, and princesses being a few of the most popular choices. The Library has 25 units available for check out thanks in part to funds from a grant designed to enrich early literacy services for young children.
As part of the “Racing to Read” grant the Library received in September, the youth services staff have been collaborating with local groups to educate parents and caregivers on the importance of teaching young children early literacy skills. Library officials are confident the new tablets, which were specifically design for libraries by Findaway, will help further their goal of early education.
According to children’s librarian, Jeana Gockley, “Launchpads are perfect for preschoolers. Not only are they durable with an easy-to-reset operating system, but they making learning crucial early literacy skills fun!”
The Launchpad tablets are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, with library cardholders being able to borrow one for a loan period of three weeks.
For more information on the Launchpads contact Jeana Gockley at 417-623-2184 or jgockley@joplinpubliclibrary.org.
The “Racing to Read” grant is administered by the Missouri State Library, made possible by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Technology Act under the provision of the Library Services and Technology Act.
