Newton County deputy injured in two-vehicle accident while making traffic stop

A Newton County deputy was injured in a two-vehicle accident 5 a.m. today on U. S. 60, four miles east of Seneca.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Deputy Mario E. Cabrera Alvarado, 45, Neosho, was parked on the shoulder of the roadway during the course of a traffic stop when it was struck from behind by a 2007 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Christopher R. Smiley, 33, Rogers, Arkansas.

Cabrera Alvarado was treated for minor injuries at Freeman Neosho.
