Highway Patrol:Driver who slammed into tree on Coyote Drive was drunk

An Ozark man was arrested for driving while intoxicated (drugs) following a one-vehicle accident 8:40 p.m. Saturday on Coyote Drive one mile south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 2013 Nissan Altima driven by Paul E. Leavitt, 57, Ozark, traveled off the roadway and struck a tree.

Leavitt was treated for moderate injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

In addition to DWI, Leavitt was cited for careless and imprudent driving, no driver's license, failure to register, and for not wearing a seat belt.
