Joplin residents can still register for curbside recycling

(From the City of Joplin)

Those Joplin residents that have already signed up for curbside recycling will start receiving their recycling carts and instructions on Monday, May 23. Republic Services will start picking up the recyclables on June 1.

As a reminder, customers can still register for the optional service by contacting Republic Services at 800-431-1507 or 800-627-1717 or online at www.republicservices.com/Joplin. An additional cost of $4.75 per month will be added to your monthly trash charge of $11.73, bringing the monthly total to $16.48. Participating residents will receive a 96-gallon polycart (that has a LIGHT BLUE lid to delineate from the trash cart’s royal blue lid) for disposing all acceptable items, (see list below.) Recycling will be serviced the same day as trash, but by a different truck at a different time. Billing will start once the cart is delivered to the house. Billing is “in the rears.” As an example, service that is received in July will be on the bill that is mailed out in August.
The following items will be accepted in the curbside recycling program and placed co-mingled (mixed all together) in the light blue lid cart: Aluminum Cans, Trays & Foils; Steel, Tin, and empty Aerosols cans; Plastic #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7 bottles and buckets; Paper and Newspapers; Cardboard and Chipboard. All items need to be clean, empty and dry, plus cardboard boxes need to be flattened.

Glass and Styrofoam will not be accepted in the curbside recycling program, however, glass bottles, jars, or jugs (containers) will still be accepted at the Joplin Recycling Center located at 1310 W. A Street. The Recycling Center is open 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. For more information about the Joplin Recycling Center visit www.joplinmo.org/recycling.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, Monday, May 30, residential trash and recycling will NOT be picked up. Customers who usually have trash picked up on Mondays will have their trash picked up on Tuesday, May 31. For the remainder of the week, the residential trash and recycling collection will move forward one day with Tuesday’s customers having Wednesday pick-up, and so on, through Saturday, June 4 which will be Friday’s collection day. The regular schedule will resume on June 6.
