Crowder College’s student newspaper, the Crowder Sentry, recently won a top honor in a contest co-sponsored by the Missouri Press Association and the Missouri Collegiate Media Association. The award was the Sweepstakes Award, which signifies the most points accumulated from awards, in the community college newspaper division in Missouri. The newspaper won a total of 29 awards at the state level, which is a record for the newspaper.
The Sentry also won a "First Place" rating in a national contest sponsored by the American Scholastic Press Association based in College Point, New York.

"It's an honor for the Sentry staff and I to compete so well against other schools across the state of Missouri and the nation," said Salcedo, editor-in-chief of the Crowder Sentry.
Crowder offers an Associate of Art degree in the areas of journalism and public relations, photography, and graphic design. Comm 150-Introduction to Journalism is a 3-credit-hour course offered this fall that teaches the basics of journalism including interviewing, news writing, broadcast news, layout, website posts, and social media.
