New website allows public overview of Joplin recovery work

Earlier this year, the City launched project snapshots on its website, www.joplinmo.org/cdbg-list, providing an overview of all the recovery work being completed in Joplin. Users can easily scroll through each project, noting their description, timeline of construction, contractor information, and an overview of the funds allocated and expended to date.

Now an interactive map feature for viewers has been launched to easily navigate the project areas and learn more about what is occurring in their neighborhood or other areas in Joplin. Citizens can enter an address and view the projects that will occur near the address.

“The dashboard was the initial tool to introduce the projects’ details to the public,” said Troy Bolander, Director of Planning, Development and Neighborhood Services. “With this upgrade, citizens can now view a map of the projects to note upcoming work in and around their neighborhood. This will help their awareness of potential street closures or detours and when to expect these.”

The dashboard can be found at www.joplincdbgdrpublic.com or by clicking the link at the end of this article. The website is also mobile-friendly for those wanting to access it via their mobile device. With a user guide and FAQs on the site, users can quickly learn the navigation of the dashboard. Contractor and engineer contact information for each project is also listed so citizens can contact them directly if they have questions.

These projects are funded through the $158 million grant from the Community Development Block Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) program administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to help with rebuilding Joplin following the disaster. Last year, the City Council approved the final projects to be completed with this funding. Categories include Schools & Community; Economic Development; Housing & Neighborhood; and Infrastructure & Environment.

“As the recovery work continues now through 2019, this website will be a great resource as projects evolve,” said Bolander. “We’ll be working throughout the City so this is one way our citizens can watch for projects in their areas and note the schedules that their normal routes may be interrupted due to the work.”
