Neosho man arrested for failure to register as sex offender

The Highway Patrol arrested Shaun P. Stewart, 37, Neosho, 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Newton County on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender.

Stewart entered an Alford plea in Barry County Circuit Court in 2009 to a charge of statutory sodomy. In an Alford plea, the defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict him. The case was heard in Barry County on a change of venue from Newton County.

Online court records indicate the Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed the failure to register as a sex offender charge against Stewart on May 25.
