In addition to picking up a national championship in the Business Communications category, members of Missouri Southern State University’s Phi Beta Lambda club received several national honors during the PBL National Leadership Conference held in June in Atlanta, Ga.
Emmalee Smith, a sophomore from Carthage, received the national championship award. She was also elected national vice president for the North Central Region of PBL. She will serve as the primary student liaison between the national organization and chapters in Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The following students also received honors during the conference:
Kyle Prisock, a Joplin senior, took third place in Organizational Behavior and Leadership.
Webb City senior Zach Harmon, Joplin senior Eli Moran and Prisock took eighth in Human Resource Management.
Samantha Maestas, a sophomore from Lincoln, Ark., took 10th in Public Speaking.
Michael Flater, a senior from Fort Scott, Kan., was a national finalist in Integrated Marketing Communications.
Students named as national qualifiers were Colt Craig, a Webb City junior; Katelyn Patterson, junior, Seneca; Nathan Teeter, freshman, Joplin; Kat Wallace, junior, Webb City.
Missouri Southern’s PBL club is sponsored by the Robert W. Plaster School of Business. PBL – the collegiate equivalent of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) – is an educational association of post-secondary student members preparing for careers in business. There are more than 10,000 active members in the United States, including 20 chapters with 350 members in Missouri. PBL in association with FBLA is the oldest and largest business organization for students.
