Public meeting scheduled on Main Street reconstruction project

(From the City of Joplin)

As part of the recovery work following the May 2011 tornado, Main Street reconstruction will begin soon. The City will host an Open House Public Meeting from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, at the offices of Olsson Associates, located at 702 S. Main, to provide citizens an opportunity to view the final plans and ask questions about the project which includes new street surface, sidewalks, and lighting improvements.

Citizens may come any time during these hours to view the plans and visit with City engineers and representatives of the project contractor, Branco Enterprises, Inc.

The $7.47 million construction contract was awarded by the Joplin City Council earlier this month to Branco Enterprises, Inc. with construction beginning as early as February 27. In July, 2015, the City Council approved the Capital Plan for the expenditure of Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds which included improvements to Main Street between 15th Street and 32nd Street.

For questions, contact David Hertzberg, Project Engineer, at 417-624-0820, ext. 506, or Dan Salisbury. Assistant Public Works Director at 417-624-0820, ext. 531.
